Tooth Replacement

If you are visiting this page, you might be trying to learn about what your options are to replace a missing tooth. If that is the case, you are in the right place! There are many options for dentists who can provide you with Tooth replacement in Coral Springs. This page is to serve as a guide to help answer any questions you might have before or after your visit in our Lakeview Dental of Coral Springs location.

What are my options?
Dentistry is simple! There are 3 options that you have to replace a missing tooth. Two options are permanent or “fixed” and one is removable. The two permanent teeth replacement options are dental implants and dental bridge. You can click on the links to learn more about those options, but briefly:

A dental implant is an option to replace one or multiple missing teeth. Dental implants can be thought of as posts that fuse to the jawbone and replace the tooth or teeth that are missing. You can replace one tooth with one dental implant or you can replace multiple teeth with multiple dental implants. There is even a procedure called an all-on-four that can replace an entire arch (14 teeth!) with only 4 implants. The benefits of a dental implant is that it does not affect any of the neighboring teeth and it is a long term and permanent solution. The only negative side of dental implants are the cost involved (>$4,000/tooth) and the time that it takes to have an implant (3-9months).

A dental bridge is a procedure that uses your existing teeth to replace a tooth that is missing. A dental bridge is a permanent prosthesis that is affixed to the tooth in front and the tooth in back of the missing tooth. The procedure is performed by preparing the teeth in front and back (these are called the abutment teeth). These abutment teeth will be used to support the bridge. A dental lab will fabricate the bridge and the bridge can be cemented permanently. Typically dental bridges are cheaper than dental implants and are less invasive. It is important that the abutment teeth are strong and in stable position or else the dental bridge will not last for long. Both dental implants and dental bridges are highly esthetic.

A removable partial denture is another form of tooth replacement procedure in Coral Springs. A removable partial denture is a denture that is made from metal or a plastic material called Valplast. It also uses the existing teeth to support it and it fills in the missing teeth. Partial Dentures are much cheaper than dental implants and dental bridges however they are often more uncomfortable and not as esthetic. Many times patients will complain of partial dentures rocking or moving in their mouth. Usually patients will have partial dentures made if they can not afford dental implants or dental bridge or if they are missing multiple teeth and their teeth/gums are not healthy enough to support a bridge or an implant.
